STONE
A Global Study of Megalithic Structures
This book documents mysterious stones that have been carved or cut by man to an impossible weight or for an improbable purpose. They are viewed through the lens of Wilhelm Moser and through the pen of his sibling Manfred Moser. At first, the brothers agenda appear to be at odds with one another, for while Wilhelm travelled the world seeking out the unknown, Manfred stayed put and attempted to explain it. The photographs seem to be trying to protect the mystery of where they have come from rather than expose it, whereas the text seems bent on dismantling, sometimes even exploding the sites. Sooner or later, even opposite paths cross and that’s where STONE lies, somewhere between the explained and the unexplained. Perhaps by accident, but one suspects deliberately, the roles even reverse at times, with the text papering over any accidental cracks of enlightenment that the images expose, and the photographs deciphering the obfuscation of the words. The photographer left clues in the images for the writer to find the answers he seeks, and he in turn left booby traps in his text to protect his brother’s precious dreams.
